I loved this series。 I loved the characters except for Lillith, her I hated。 Rhen turned out okay in the end。 Iisak was an awesome character。 Turns out Lia Mara and Harper weren't identical characters as I stated in my review of book two。 But they are similar which is okay considering that under different circumstances Grey and Harper would have probably fallen in love。 So it's great that he got someone equally good as her, maybe even better。 I loved this series。 I loved the characters except for Lillith, her I hated。 Rhen turned out okay in the end。 Iisak was an awesome character。 Turns out Lia Mara and Harper weren't identical characters as I stated in my review of book two。 But they are similar which is okay considering that under different circumstances Grey and Harper would have probably fallen in love。 So it's great that he got someone equally good as her, maybe even better。 。。。more

4。5 stars! I thought this was such a good ending to this series! I had a few ideas of what might happen in this book but I was pleasantly surprised by how everything went down。 I love love love grey。 I love Lia Mara。 I had a fun time reading this book!

I did enjoy this final instalment in the trilogy, but I have to say I didn't enjoy a lot of things as well。 For instance, how everyone seemed to forget how Shyl Shallow murdered innocent people of Emberfall and how Shyl Shallow went to Emberfall in book one and declared War。 It annoyed me that Rhen was pretty much blamed for many events that happened, and it wasn't even his fault。 They all owned up to their mistakes in the end, but I do feel like Shyl Shallow soldiers had a lot of hatred towards I did enjoy this final instalment in the trilogy, but I have to say I didn't enjoy a lot of things as well。 For instance, how everyone seemed to forget how Shyl Shallow murdered innocent people of Emberfall and how Shyl Shallow went to Emberfall in book one and declared War。 It annoyed me that Rhen was pretty much blamed for many events that happened, and it wasn't even his fault。 They all owned up to their mistakes in the end, but I do feel like Shyl Shallow soldiers had a lot of hatred towards Emberfall soldiers for their loss when they went to Emberfall in the first place。 You can't hate them for defending their country and their Crown Prince。 I also must say that I didn't enjoy the ending。 。。。more

I am underwhelmed。 It didn't felt like I was reading a full book of the cursebreaker series and sometimes the characters were just caricatures of themselves。 I did enjoyed a few moments but most of it was just Rhen playing the victim and everyone patting his back and finding excuses to each others。 I don't know, I really don't know how to feel。 They were kids who had no idea what to do。 I am sad。 I am happy that I finished the series but it was not what I was hoping for and it felt so clumsy。 I I am underwhelmed。 It didn't felt like I was reading a full book of the cursebreaker series and sometimes the characters were just caricatures of themselves。 I did enjoyed a few moments but most of it was just Rhen playing the victim and everyone patting his back and finding excuses to each others。 I don't know, I really don't know how to feel。 They were kids who had no idea what to do。 I am sad。 I am happy that I finished the series but it was not what I was hoping for and it felt so clumsy。 I hate to say this because the first two books were absolute bangers to me。 I have no idea what happend。 It wasn't bad but a bit bland。 It wasn't the enjoyement and the thrill I had with the first two either。 But I am still very thankful to Brigid Kemmerer for an amazing ride。 I will not forget the power of the first two and make my grief over the third one。 It's okay, the end was still nice and my heart still ached with sadness and love when I had to close the final book。 。。。more

It took me awhile to get into this one as it's been over a year since I read the first two books。 In this final book in the series the story is told from all four perspectives: Rhen, Harper, Lia Mara, and Grey。 Occasionally I would forget whose perspective it was, and would need to flip back to the beginning of the chapter to see。 There was a lot going on here, and it was hard to see how it would wrap up, but it did in a satisfactory way。 Though I didn't feel as invested as I did in the first bo It took me awhile to get into this one as it's been over a year since I read the first two books。 In this final book in the series the story is told from all four perspectives: Rhen, Harper, Lia Mara, and Grey。 Occasionally I would forget whose perspective it was, and would need to flip back to the beginning of the chapter to see。 There was a lot going on here, and it was hard to see how it would wrap up, but it did in a satisfactory way。 Though I didn't feel as invested as I did in the first book, by the end I couldn't put it down。 。。。more

It had been so long that I barely remembered what happened in book 2, so I wasn't that thrilled about picking up this last book (don't ask me why, maybe I just wasn't in the mood?)。Within the first 20 pages, I was glad I did! Rather than Rhen just ‘giving up’ and Grey taking the throne。 Maybe that’s too much of a sappy ending, but I would have enjoyed it。Apart from that I loved these books so much - if you like fantasy you need to read them。 。。。more

Mmmm well 。 This happened。 The story was exactly like what I expected (but hoped the author would do something shocking) except that I thought something might actually happen in the first 200 pages。 😬 I, like the characters, just plodded slowly through that part。 Once we hit the midway point it did get better。 What this series really lacked for me was great romance。 I didn't feel either of the two relationships。 😕 Overall this was very mediocre。 I can't see myself rereading this series。 Mmmm well 。 This happened。 The story was exactly like what I expected (but hoped the author would do something shocking) except that I thought something might actually happen in the first 200 pages。 😬 I, like the characters, just plodded slowly through that part。 Once we hit the midway point it did get better。 What this series really lacked for me was great romance。 I didn't feel either of the two relationships。 😕 Overall this was very mediocre。 I can't see myself rereading this series。 。。。more

At 38 years old you’d think I’d have gotten past devoted, unconditional love stories。 Brigid Kemmerer has reminded me that I haven’t。 And maybe it’s because for 12+ years I’ve had my Grey/Rhen next to me; so I know love exists。 Or maybe it’s because the 16 year old version of me is bawling her eyes out at how poignant and amazing these characters and their stories are。 Either way I’m glad to still be able to enter a fantasy world made for teens and fall in love with it。 My personal notes:- As a At 38 years old you’d think I’d have gotten past devoted, unconditional love stories。 Brigid Kemmerer has reminded me that I haven’t。 And maybe it’s because for 12+ years I’ve had my Grey/Rhen next to me; so I know love exists。 Or maybe it’s because the 16 year old version of me is bawling her eyes out at how poignant and amazing these characters and their stories are。 Either way I’m glad to still be able to enter a fantasy world made for teens and fall in love with it。 My personal notes:- As a lover of Grey, from early in book 1, I can honestly say that his character progression is lovely。 And I love him even more after every page I flipped - Rhen and Harper still annoy me。。。 in the last half of the book I got over it without even realizing it until I was at the end。 Lol- Noah and Jake are adorable and I wish there was so much more of them- Virginity is lost! It’s YA rated but still pretty steamy - Blood is spilled。 Like a lot of blood。 And yes I loved that too。 Give me a tortured soul any day- Beauty and the Beast has never been my favourite story。 But this series is proof it can be done without it seeming totally inappropriate or wrong。 I’m impressed。 If you’d read the first two books then you don’t need me to tell you to read this。 Just know that the ending is lovely。 And as someone who hates most endings it’s nice to smile and put this third book down, content with where we are at。Although I’m already dreading the possibility of a follow-up series。。。 because I’m paranoid to touch good things in case they get messed up。 However, as Kemmerer points out to us many times during this series, you cannot gain anything without risking something as well。 There are many lovely lines and adages to take to heart in this last book of the Cursebreaker series; but I think my favourite one is this one; because in real life people make mistakes and we hurt one another。 Trust is always so hard to gain; and yet easily lost。 Kemmerer reminds us to give others a break sometimes; as we need one ourselves at times:”One choice shouldn’t undo a thousand good ones。”Excuse me while I go kiss my husband and thank him for all our wonderful years together; and all those to come。 Don’t forget to love those around you openly and unabashedly。 Just as Rhen and Grey do their ladies。 。。。more

This one。 This one was not my fav。 It also was not my least fav。 Here’s my order:1。 A Curse So Dark & Lonely2。 A Bow So Bold & Deadly3。 A Heart So Fierce & BrokenI like my books/book series to wrap up nicely。 It is assumes that this is the last book of this series, but the ending didn’t feel complete。 It very much seems as though it was left a bit open-ended in case Kimmerer were to ever decide to revisit this world/these characters。 & honestly, I’d rather she do just that at this point。 I’m gla This one。 This one was not my fav。 It also was not my least fav。 Here’s my order:1。 A Curse So Dark & Lonely2。 A Bow So Bold & Deadly3。 A Heart So Fierce & BrokenI like my books/book series to wrap up nicely。 It is assumes that this is the last book of this series, but the ending didn’t feel complete。 It very much seems as though it was left a bit open-ended in case Kimmerer were to ever decide to revisit this world/these characters。 & honestly, I’d rather she do just that at this point。 I’m glad we got Ren & Harper back in this book! I think that’s why the 2nd book is my least favorite。 I didn’t care enough about the relationship between Grey & Lia Mara to dedicate my time to a 2nd book that was only from their POVs。 Speaking of relationships - am I the only one not secure in what Ren & Harper are suppose to have? Idk。 Maybe I just ultimately need one more book that either solely focuses are those 2 or at least uses 75% of the book to focus on the two of them。Several times, while reading this book, I thought/wished that BK would have made the first book a tad bit longer & then just called it a day on this series。 I would have greatly recommended this series to friends had it stopped with book one。 I’ll never discourage someone from reading this series, but I also have no desire to tell anyone about it either。 。。。more

Say it with me now, y'all:But really, I shouldn't be。 I'M the one who still maintained shreds of hope for this finale。And, honestly, I think this conclusion could have been executed well enough, if not for Lia Mara。 I literally skipped 2/3 of her POV chapters and I was still able to follow the plot without a hitch。 And then she was graced with the cliche trope we all love to hate—especially with young adult characters, my GOD, I don't care if this is set in typical fantasy times where shit like Say it with me now, y'all:But really, I shouldn't be。 I'M the one who still maintained shreds of hope for this finale。And, honestly, I think this conclusion could have been executed well enough, if not for Lia Mara。 I literally skipped 2/3 of her POV chapters and I was still able to follow the plot without a hitch。 And then she was graced with the cliche trope we all love to hate—especially with young adult characters, my GOD, I don't care if this is set in typical fantasy times where shit like that was normal, they're all still practically high schoolers—and I simply loathed her and intentionally skimmed every sentence she said that didn't involve Harper or Rhen。SPEAKING of Rhen— easily the greatest character in this entire trilogy, and I honestly can't decide whether I agree with the way his arc concluded or not。 Getting his POV in the second book would have been beneficial。 Or, you know, we could have omitted the chapters from Lia Mara's perspective to give the spotlight back to the original trio??Ah, well, a girl could dream。 And what happened to the supporting characters from the first two books? They damn near disappeared, that's what。 Tycho was off doing his own thing, and getting away with it, because he's Grey's favorite human being。 Jake and Noah hardly spent any time together, and when they did, Noah said MAYBE three sentences。 Zo, Freya, and Jamison were in this one more than the sequel, which was nice, but everyone's personality had either been subdued or given a complete overhaul, so it felt like relearning all of the characters all over again。 In all honesty, the 3/5 stars go to Harper, Rhen, and Ironwill for carrying this finale。 The climax was, ahem, anticlimactic as HELL。 Lilith bounced all over the place, and random little twists that I'm sure were supposed to be gutwrenching were barely worth a sigh。In short: should have kept this one a standalone。 If Harper, Grey, and Rhen had remained the three titular characters of the trilogy—maybe focusing on one of them in particular for each novel, like Brandon Sanderson is doing with his pivotal characters in the Stormlight Archives—this probably would have been an easy 4/5 stars。 But then Lia Mara was added, and the resolution of a brimming war was poorly handled。 But hey, at least the "bro-to-bro" moments paid off in the end。 The very end。。。 。。。more

This was a fantastic end to one of the best trilogies I've read in quite a while。 I put off reading the first book because I wasn't interested in fairytale retellings。 I have since learned my lesson on this。 Each book has been wonderful in its own right (with the second book being my favorite)。 And this final book wrapped up everything wonderfully。 Several friends had also been reading this series and we were all worried about who might get killed off, and some of us were Team So-And-So vs。 the This was a fantastic end to one of the best trilogies I've read in quite a while。 I put off reading the first book because I wasn't interested in fairytale retellings。 I have since learned my lesson on this。 Each book has been wonderful in its own right (with the second book being my favorite)。 And this final book wrapped up everything wonderfully。 Several friends had also been reading this series and we were all worried about who might get killed off, and some of us were Team So-And-So vs。 the other group of protagonists/antagonists (depending on your allegiances, lol), so it was a nailbiter to see just how everything panned out and I have to say, I'm satisfied。 I truly cared for all of these characters over the course of this series and was not disappointed with how this ended。 。。。more

3。5* I have mixed feelings about this book。 On one hand, I am glad that they focused more on Rhen and Harper in this one and explained what we were missing in book 2。 However, it felt a little sloppy in explaining this and it would have been much nicer to have their POVs in book 2 so it didn't feel like this book was rushing to cover its tracks。 I really liked the relationship between Grey and Rhen and each of them grappling with their love for each other while also being at odds。 I was a little 3。5* I have mixed feelings about this book。 On one hand, I am glad that they focused more on Rhen and Harper in this one and explained what we were missing in book 2。 However, it felt a little sloppy in explaining this and it would have been much nicer to have their POVs in book 2 so it didn't feel like this book was rushing to cover its tracks。 I really liked the relationship between Grey and Rhen and each of them grappling with their love for each other while also being at odds。 I was a little disappointed at the ending and felt like we didn't really get a satisfying conclusion for Rhen's character。 The ending seemed almost like it could be setting up another book even though this is the series conclusion。 Overall, I would say that the first book was the strongest of the series, followed by this book far below and the second book right behind this one。 I had such high hopes after reading the first one and then the series ended up just being okay。 I still think it is a refreshing take on the Beauty and the Beast story and I love the disability rep with Harper's character。 。。。more

I suppose this is why I hesitate to give up on books (or series) even when I find them lacking。 I felt that way about the Temeraire books at some point (like most people) but in finishing them enjoyed every little snippet of Temeraire and Iskierka I found。I wrote at the end of the previous book: I guess now I'm invested, I'll read the third book as well, but I'm not like super INTO this book series Happy to say that I will eat my words! I was very invested in the trials and tribulations of Harper and Rhen and Grey and Lia Mara this time around, and enjoyed their various POVs more or less equally。 I don't even think it's a sunk cost type of fallacy, because it's been a very long while since I've read the last book that I didn't really remember much of what happened。 This book managed to create legitimate stakes and consequences in a way that made it unclear to me how exactly things would end up。Spoilers sort of abound but then again it's the third book in a series, why are you reading this? In comparison to last book, which I felt did Harper dirty with its focus on drippy Grey, this book nicely balanced the various factions and presented them as equally compelling。 Sylh Shallow has been starved of access to trade routes but had a vicious queen who ruled through fear but cared deeply about her people who fear magic enough to launch some casual terrorism。 Emberfell has been casual cruel to its vassals but suffered terribly under Lilith and has done good recently but the prince is illegitimate。 Everyone has reasons for what they did, and you can get behind them。 There's almost no one who is spared consequences of their actions except Noah and Jake who, in a refreshing twist on Bury Your Gays are the only couple who happily stay together without wrenching heartache and secrets。That being said, I don't know HOW Kemmerer thought that Rhen's "I whipped my brother to the bone to get him to tell me his secret" was going to be held up as equivalent to Grey's "I didn't tell my brother that I was his brother。" All in all, though, this was an excellent conclusion to this little trilogy, leaving me with understanding and compassion for these four young (at 20! you are! not! an adult!) people and their attempts at making the best they can in a funny world。 The books ends on a clear opening for a new trilogy but with enough closure that you wouldn't feel like you've been cheated of an ending。 If anything, the lack of entirely neat solutions (view spoiler)[is Harper (and poor Dr。 Noah!) never going to see her home again? What is going to happen to Sylh Shallow and their anti-magic? How will Grey and Lia Mara handle being King and Queen of two separate kingdoms? Is anyone going to deal with Azula knockoff Nolla Verin? (hide spoiler)] merely adds to the sense of realism/consequences that Kemmerer brought to her Beauty and the Beast-inspired world。["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more
